What is the Current GRE Exam Structure?
The current GRE General Test has three main measures: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. Analytical Writing always comes first. After that, Verbal and Quant sections appear in the test flow. The total test time is about 1 hour and 58 minutes.
For Nepal students, the shorter GRE means less total testing time, but it also means every question carries more importance. You need strong accuracy, pacing and section-wise strategy from the beginning of preparation.
GRE has three scored measures
GRE does not give only one total score. Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are reported separately, and Analytical Writing is also reported separately. Universities may focus on different sections depending on the program.

GRE Score Structure: Verbal, Quant and Analytical Writing
GRE score reporting is section-wise. Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are scored from 130 to 170 each. Analytical Writing is scored from 0 to 6. Students should not ignore Analytical Writing because it can reflect academic communication ability, especially for graduate programs.

Score range is 130–170. It measures reading comprehension, vocabulary in context, sentence logic, inference, text completion and sentence equivalence.
Quantitative Reasoning
Score range is 130–170. It measures arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data analysis, quantitative comparison and logical mathematical problem solving.
Analytical Writing
Score range is 0–6. It measures your ability to develop a clear position, organize ideas, support reasoning and write in academic English.

Analytical Writing
You get one Issue task. You must present your position clearly, support it with relevant reasons and examples, and organize the essay logically within 30 minutes.
Reading Comprehension

Text Completion
You complete sentences or passages by choosing words that fit both meaning and logic. Vocabulary and sentence structure are important.
Sentence Equivalence
You select two answer choices that produce similar meaning. It tests vocabulary, tone, contrast and sentence logic.

You compare two quantities and decide which is greater, whether they are equal, or whether the relationship cannot be determined.
